Closed Mumbai outlets, unsuccessful website payments, out-of-stock marketplace listings and months of social media silence have raised questions about Freakins' operations. The company has not confirmed a temporary or permanent shutdown.

Mumbai-based denim brand Freakins appears to be facing a disruption to its retail operations. Attempts to make purchases on its website have failed, while Mumbai outlets checked by TCI were closed. The company, known for its creator-led collections and Gen Z marketing, has not announced a shutdown.

Checks by TCI found that products remained visible on the Freakins website, but attempts to complete payment were unsuccessful. Several Freakins product pages on Myntra remain online but are marked out of stock. A review of the brand’s Instagram account found no new posts since August 2026.

TCI’s checks of Freakins’ physical stores in Mumbai (in Bandra and Kurla) also found the outlets closed. It is not yet clear when they stopped trading, whether the closures are temporary or if any locations remain operational.

A source familiar with the company has indicated to The Creators Index that operations may have stopped. However, TCI has not independently established the extent or cause of any pause, or whether the business intends to resume normal trading. Checkout failures, closed outlets and social media inactivity do not, individually, establish a permanent closure.

Founded in 2021 by Shaan Shah and Puneet Sehgal, Freakins built its identity around experimental denim and fashion aimed at younger shoppers. Its own website describes a catalogue spanning more than 35 categories, with sales through its direct-to-consumer store and online marketplaces.

Creators were central to how Freakins marketed its products. The brand released collections with Apoorva Makhija (The Rebel Kid), Uorfi Javed, Sakshi Keswani (Being Suku), Saurabh Ghadge and Nidhi Kumar (NKD). Rather than relying only on sponsored posts, it developed clothing lines around creators’ styles and communities.

Freakins also took influencer campaigns outdoors. In 2023, it featured Tarini Shah and Agastya Shah on a billboard at Mumbai’s Haji Ali Junction. A later campaign with Finnet Media displayed reels from 14 creators on billboards at Dadar’s Tilak Bridge, with coupon codes encouraging audiences to engage online. Finnet says the campaign generated more than 20 million views.

In another three-month campaign, Freakins worked with 132 Instagram influencers, according to exchange4media.

Former brand marketing head Harpreet Kaur Saini also described the company’s use of barter collaborations with influencers in a public LinkedIn comment, illustrating how its creator partnerships ranged from product exchanges to co-created collections.

The company raised more than $7 million from investors including Blume Ventures and Matrix Partners India, according to Inc42, and featured on the second season of Shark Tank India.

Its financial results showed rapid growth but continuing losses. Inc42’s database records FY25 revenue of approximately ₹72.5 crore, up nearly 160% year on year, alongside a net loss of about ₹21 crore. Separately, The Entrepreneur Story reported in September 2025, citing IndianStartupNews, that Freakins had laid off around 10% of its staff. Neither development establishes why its retail channels appear disrupted now.

Freakins operates through Since99 Apparel Private Limited, which corporate-information databases continue to list as active. That registration status does not establish whether stores, payments or fulfilment are currently operating.

The interruption also raises questions about ongoing customer orders, returns and creator partnerships. TCI has not verified whether any collaboration contracts or creator payments are affected, and there is no basis to attribute the apparent disruption to influencer marketing itself.

The Creators Index has contacted Freakins employees for comment but has not received confirmation of a formal shutdown or a timeline for resuming operations. This story will be updated if further information becomes available.
