Pinterest is giving brands a new way to turn existing creator Pins into paid ads, even when the creator and brand did not already have a sponsorship arrangement.
Under the new system, brands can identify eligible creator Pins and pay to promote them across Pinterest. The creator is notified by email and can choose whether to allow brand promotion of their content.
Brands can promote creator Pins without a prior sponsorship
Pinterest already supports paid-partnership Pins, where a creator and brand have an established commercial relationship and the creator tags the business in the post. The new option starts from a different place: the Pin can already exist organically before a brand decides it wants to amplify it.
That gives advertisers a larger pool of creator content to work with. A brand no longer has to begin every campaign with a new brief and a newly commissioned Pin; it can find eligible content that already features or relates to its products and turn that content into paid distribution.
Creators can allow or block brand promotion
Pinterest says creators will receive an email if a brand decides to promote one of their eligible Pins. Creators can also switch off brand promotion at the account level through Pinterest’s Content permissions settings.
Pinterest recommends that creators who want to be considered for brand promotion mention relevant brands in Pin titles and descriptions, continue making shoppable content and keep their content brand-safe.
A promoted Pin does not automatically mean a creator gets paid
The most important distinction is financial. Pinterest’s current help documentation explains how brands can pay to promote eligible creator Pins, but it does not say that the creator automatically receives a share of that advertising spend or a separate payment when a Pin is boosted.
That means the feature should not be treated as a new direct creator-monetisation programme. The immediate benefit for creators is additional paid reach and the possibility of being discovered by brands that were not already working with them. Any separate compensation or sponsorship would still need to be established between the creator and the brand.
For Pinterest, the update creates a closer link between organic creator content and its advertising business. For brands, it makes creator-made Pins available as potential ad creative after they have already been published. Pinterest has not announced a separate India rollout for the feature.
