Instagram has added carousel creation tools to Edits, taking the app beyond its original focus on video. Creators can now build multi-slide posts inside the same app they use to edit Reels and other video projects.
The carousel editor is available on iOS now, with Android support coming soon. It is a creation-tool update inside Edits, not a change to how Instagram ranks or distributes carousel posts.
Edits now has a dedicated canvas for carousels
Creators can combine photos and videos, try different layouts, reuse Edits fonts and text styles, and create cutout stickers for use across a carousel. Instagram is effectively bringing some of the visual controls already available in Edits into a format that was previously built mostly outside the app.
That gives creators more control over how multiple slides work together without turning the carousel into a separate production workflow.
Edits is moving beyond being a video-only tool
Edits launched as Instagram’s standalone video creation app, but carousel editing broadens the role it can play in a creator’s workflow. A creator working on one campaign or idea can now use the same app for a Reel and a related carousel, while carrying over fonts and text treatments.
The update also fits Instagram’s continued investment in carousels. The platform has previously added more controls around carousel posts as it tries to give creators more ways to package information across multiple frames.
The immediate benefit is workflow, not reach
For creators, the practical change is that another Instagram format can now be produced inside Edits. Instagram has not announced any reach advantage for carousels made in Edits, so the update should be understood as a production change rather than a distribution one.
The more important signal is what Edits is becoming. Instagram is gradually turning it from a dedicated video editor into a broader creation workspace that can support more than one of the platform’s major content formats.
